Humboldt County is about to open up an amazing opportunity for the children of Humboldt County. In partnership with Make-A-Wish Iowa, Humboldt Community Foundation and HCMH, we are on a mission to raise $300,000, one time, to guarantee forever, one wish per year for a Humboldt County child. Truly a one-time donation that lasts a lifetime and makes a less fortunate child’s dream come true.

Humboldt Community Leaders Aim to Create a Forever Wish

The race is on to raise $300,000 to forever fund a wish for the children of Humboldt County.

Humboldt, Iowa – 371 children in Iowa are waiting for a wish from Make-A-Wish and there is one in Humboldt County.

In 2022, Make-A-Wish released a powerful survey of wish children, their families and doctors that had overwhelming findings. 95% of the doctors surveyed reported the wish improved their patients’ emotional and physical well-being. Most notably, 75% of the doctors went as far as to state that a wish could improve a child’s medical outcomes. To read the full study go to: https://wish.org/impact-study

“As the primary health care provider to the patients of Humboldt County, HCMH touches the lives of many of these children. We are honored to be part of the team to help make wishes come true,” Michelle Sleiter, CEO of Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

The Humboldt Community Foundation has opened an endowment fund in partnership with Make-A-Wish Iowa. Anyone in the community can contribute to the fund at the foundation. Once the fund hit’s $300,000, it will then generate a $15,000 draw down every single year, forever, to fund a wish for a child in Humboldt County. State endowment tax credits are available when donating to this local fund.

“To know that we have the power as a community to ensure that a local child could have the cost of their wish covered forever, is something I had to make sure we accomplished,” Ryan Harklau, board member to Make-A-Wish Iowa stated. “I know first-hand how amazing the people are across Humboldt County, and I would love for our county to have the very first endowed wish in the state of Iowa.”

We will also be honoring donors in a personalized and meaningful way on the “Humboldt County Wall of Wishes” donor wall which will be located at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
