Grant Application FAQ
- Who can apply for a grant from the Humboldt County Community Foundation?
- The Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations to foster private giving, strengthen service providers and improve the conditions of the county. The organization should be a 501 c 3 as designated by the IRS or have a fiscal agent that is. In addition, local governments and schools are eligible to apply. Federal employer identification numbers (EIN) must be furnished on the application to be considered. Individuals cannot apply for funding.
- What is the deadline for the application?
- All applications are due by 4:30 PM on Friday, January 29, 2010 to the City of Humboldt, 29 5th Street South, PO Box 29, Humboldt, Iowa 50548.
- Where can I get an application?
- Applications will be available at the informational meeting to be held on Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Humboldt City Council Chambers as well as online at http://www.hccfb.org
- When will we know if our application is funded?
- The review committee will read and score applications between February 1st and February9th. The full Foundation board will meet on February 10th 2010 to approve the final grant awards. Notice of awards will be mailed around mid March. Grant award checks will be presented at a the Spirit Awards at the Humboldt High School Auditorium on March 30th, 2010 at 7:00 PM.
- Why does the Humboldt County Community Foundation exist and have money to fund these grant applications?
- The Foundation is a charitable public foundation established by community stakeholders for the purpose of improving the quality of life in Humboldt County by initiating programs, coordinating resources, and supporting organizations that enhance education, community betterment, arts and culture, health and human services.
- What types of projects will be funded?
- Typically, grants fall into one of seven categories: community enrichment/progress, cultural and civic programs, arts, health, environment, social services, and education. In general, the Foundation will support three types of requests:
- Projects of service to the general community or pilot projects
- Seed money to enable projects to demonstrate their potential or enhance services
- Emergency funding for community needs
- What is an in-kind match?
- An in-kind match, sometimes referred to as a soft match, is a non-monetary contribution to a project. For example, if a professional donates his/her services toward a project, the value of those services can be put into the total project contributions and used as an in-kind match to the hard dollars requested from the HCCF.
- What is the maximum dollar amount that can be applied for?
- Grant amounts are dependent upon the allocation of funds available to the HCCF each year. In general, however, the HCCF will award grants up to a maximum 50% of the project.
- Can we apply for a grant from the HCCF again this year if we received a grant last year?
- Yes. However, if the project has not yet been completed or if the evaluation report has not been returned to the HCCF, a new application will not be considered from the same organization.
