FOUNDATION ISSUES GRANTMAKING ALERT
The Humboldt County Community Foundation which was organized to promote and and enhance philanthropy in Humboldt County has established its 2007 grantmaking policies and timetables. The Foundation has once again received a state award and some private donations to facilitate endowment building and grantmaking throughout the county.
Each year the Foundation makes grant awards to worthwhile projects located in the county that are identified through a community grants application process. Examples of the Foundation’s areas of emphasis include: Arts and Culture, Community Betterment, Education, Health and Human Services, Recreation and Environment, and Youth Development. For your information, recipients of last year’s grants are listed on the Foundation’s website.
Grant applications are now available and may be obtained electronically at the Foundation’s website located at http://www.hccfb.org or in hard copy at the Humboldt County Extension Office, 727 Summer Avenue, Humboldt, IA.
This year the Foundation is requiring at least one member of every organization preparing a grant application to attend a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Humboldt City Hall. No grant applications may be filed unless an organization has attended this informational meeting and provided the name(s) of attendees on the grant application. As a result of this new requirement no applications will be accepted until after this informational meeting.
The deadline for filing applications is February 23, 2007 at 4:30 pm. The Foundation encourages 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations and 170b units of government to attend the informational meeting and file grant applications. Grant awards will be made around April 1, 2007. For more information about the Foundation and grants you should go to the website indicated above or contact Foundation Board members Steve Sandblom or Doug Berte.
